Throwdown with Bobby Flay

I hope you guys are looking for a delicious, fattening meal to make this weekend. Jordan and I actually made this two weeks ago, and have been slacking in updating our blog. We went to Park City, Utah last week and had an amazing time!! Since we are both from Texas, we thought we would try a hearty southern meal. This allowed us to rate Bobby Flay's Throwdown Cookbook once more as well. We made two dishes from the cookbook:

Chicken Fried Steak

Delilah's 7 cheese Mac and Cheese

We also used a delicious recipe for a spicy corn from Allrecipes.com:

Mexican Corn

Chicken Fried Steak
I would like to start by saying this was the BEST chicken fried steak EVER! All the ingredients were easily available at Publix, and the instructions were quite easy to follow. As we all know, Bobby Flay loves to add a little spice to everything and this most certainly complimented the flavors in the chicken fried steak. The double dipping technique ensured that the steak had an extra crispy outside. Now, for those of you who are not from Texas chicken fried steak is actually not chicken. It is sirloin steak that is breaded and deep fried, hence the name chicken fried steak. This dish probably requires a medium skill level, as you have to make sure the steak is fully cooked and fully coated with the flavored flour. On a scale of 1-10, we would most definitely rate this dish a 9. The gravy complimented the steak perfectly. We did not use bacon, as Imran and I don't eat bacon but the consistency was perfect. We added an extra pinch of salt in the gravy for a little more flavor! WARNING: This is not a meal you want to eat if you are on any sort of diet!!!

Delilah's Seven Cheese Mac and Cheese

Jordan and I have a friend Corri, who makes the world's BEST Mac and Cheese. Therefore, we have extremely high standards for Mac and Cheese. If we had never eaten Corri's Mac and Cheese, this dish would have probably gotten a higher rating. The texture was a little dry, but the boys still loved it. It wasn't too difficult to find all the cheeses at Publix, but boy gourmet cheeses rack up the grocery bill! The skill level needed for this dish is definitely intermediate, as it involves shredding several different cheeses and a few processes. Overall, the dish was scrumptious and complimented the Chicken Fried steak perfectly. On a scale of 1-10, this side would receive a 6. If I had never eaten Corri's Mac and Cheese (which is a 10), I would have probably rated this dish an 8.

Mexican Corn
I personally guarantee you that this will be your new go to recipe for a side dish. This corn is extremely easy to make and everyone loved it. The spice level may be a bit high for some people, but you can adjust that according to preference. There are only four ingredients needed to make this dish, which can all be found at your local grocery store. The recipe calls for 10 jalapenos, we used only 8 and tried to not use all the seeds. Make sure you chop the jalapenos really finely so you don't overpower the corn. The cream cheese adds the perfect texture to this dish! This is a beginner level dish, with an advanced level taste. I would rate this corn on a scale of 1- 10 a 9.

This meal was the best thus far for the boys. We had to give away the leftovers, otherwise Imran would have eaten it for breakfast the next day! I hope everyone tries making these dishes and thoroughly enjoys them. Our next entry will be a little healthier, I promise :)
